The modernization project for the Mtwara Gas Power Plant included the delivery of 11 kV switchgear and the development of the Synapse SCADA system featuring complex integration of synchronization and regulation for nine generating units. Thanks to precise engineering, the works were successfully executed while maintaining the stability of the city's island power supply, without long-term plant outages.
Equipement Delivered
- 11 kV, 1250 A, air-insulated switchgear set (AIS), consisting of 16 bays in total.
- 24 V DC generation and distribution cabinet with batteries.
- Remote control computers.

Scope of Work
- Preparation of the detailed electrical design with the requirement to integrate synchronization, frequency, and voltage regulation systems for nine gas gensets (2 MVA each) into the new switchgear units.
- Development of the Synapse SCADA application for remote monitoring and control of the power plant.
- Installation supervision. The works were carried out without long-term total plant shutdowns, using only brief interruptions during periods of minimum load due to the plant’s critical role in the Mtwara city island power system.
- Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) of all subsystems.
- Phased commissioning until full availability was achieved.
